How to Pack for Your Winter Vacation in Lake Chelan

If you’re heading to the mountains this winter, packing right can make all the difference in your comfort, warmth, and enjoyment.

With scenic views, snowy trails, and nights by your own personal fire pit, there’s no better place to enjoy a winter wonderland getaway in Lake Chelan. Here’s your guide to packing smart for the ultimate cabin vacation.

1. Start with Winter Essentials

The key to winter travel is staying warm and dry. Pack these winter staples:

  • Heavy Winter Jacket: Look for a water-resistant jacket with insulation.

  • Thermal Layers: Layering helps you regulate warmth, especially if you’ll be outdoors during the day.

  • Warm Accessories: Don’t forget gloves, a cozy hat, scarf, and wool socks. Even if you’re inside by the fire, these are great for stepping outside or lounging on chilly mornings.

  • Winterfest Button: Okay this isn’t exactly winter gear, but it is essential if you’re staying with us during Lake Chelan’s annual Winterfest. Grab your button and event tickets here!

2. Outdoor Adventure Gear

Echo Valley is surrounded by opportunities for winter fun, from scenic hikes to snowball fights. Be sure to pack:

  • Waterproof Boots: A pair with traction is essential, especially for walking in snowy or icy areas.

  • Snow Pants: Perfect for any snow activities, like sledding at Echo Valley Ski Area or snowshoeing.

  • Snowshoes: Speaking of snowshoeing, if you have a pair of your own – bring them! Several of our studio Adventure Cabins are snowshoe-in/out. We also have rentals available, just ask at the front desk.

  • Portable Thermos: Keep your hot beverages warm for winter hikes or cozy nights outside. Check out our gift shop for some logo-fied options!

3. Comfort Items for the Cabin

After a day outside, there’s nothing like coming back to a warm cabin. Bring along these comforts to bring your cozy to the next level:

  • Lounge Clothing: Think cozy flannel pajamas, slippers, and warm sweaters.

  • Blanket and Pillow: If you have a favorite travel blanket or pillow, pack it to make your stay extra comfy. We also have these items available in each cabin if you want to save space in your bag!

  • Personal Care Items: Dry winter air can be harsh on skin, so bring along lotion, chapstick, and any other must-have products to keep your skin hydrated and happy.

4. Entertainment and Activities

Winter nights are perfect for spending quality time indoors. Plan for some relaxation and fun options with:

  • Board Games and Puzzles: We supply our guests with playing cards and board games in every cabin, but do bring your family’s favorites for friendly competition or an epic showdown.

  • Books or Art Supplies: There’s nothing like reading by a crackling fire or capturing the amazing views your cabin windows perfectly frame.

  • Portable Speakers or Headphones: Play your favorite music or listen to an audiobook while enjoying the snowy sights.

5. Food Essentials

Enjoy your stay with some good winter snacks and easy-to-prepare meals. You’ll want to bring:

  • Hot Drink Mixes: Hot cocoa, cider, or tea is a must!

  • Easy Meals: Soups, stews, or meal-prep options are perfect for cabin cooking and maximizing time for fun.

  • Snacks for the Cabin: Think of marshmallows for roasting, a bottle of local wine, or some favorite savory snack mixes. Craving something extra? Pop into the front office to peep some more snacky options.

6. Pack Efficiently

To keep things organized, consider packing cubes or waterproof bags for winter clothing. This will make it easy to sort essentials from day-to-day items, especially if you’re heading outdoors frequently.

Your winter escape awaits. With these packing tips, you’ll be ready for the cold and free to enjoy all the cozy, unforgettable moments the season has to offer. And definitely don’t forget a camera!
